Recently, a middle-aged women in China stayed up all night to watch movies on her smartphone every evening. After a while, she felt pain in her eyes along with terrible headaches. She went to the hospital and the results showed she was acute glaucoma, causing blurred vision. Then, in spite of doing the surgery, her vision has not improved, caused almost blind.
Sharing about the case of this woman, Director of Taichung Veterans Ophthalmology Hospital said: “Before sleeping, many people have a habit of using their phone in the dark, causing expansion of their pupillary, stiffness of eyelid muscles, aqueous humor can not drain out of their eyes, thereby increasing the risk for acute glaucoma or even permanent blindness.”

In addition, there are a lot of researches showing that green light from smartphone is launched to let users be able to see the screen even on the sunniest time of the day. Nevertheless, at night, the brain is fooled by that light, mistakes the sunlight and causes the brain to stop producing melatonin, a hormone that signals your body to sleep. This is the reason why we are often very difficult to sleep after using smartphone at night.
On the other hand, when you use your phone in the dark in a long time, the green light from your phone directly shines into your eyes, destroys cells in the retina. In a long term, it may trigger eyes cancer and blindness.
Before going sleep, it is advice to use smartphone less than an hour in the condition of having enough light.
Therefore, ophthalmology experts have warned that we should use electronic devices at most 1 hour only before going to bed and in well-lit places. Besides, do not use smartphones in condition of low light to prevent yourself to the risk of eye cancer and blind eyes.
