The Pentagon’s officials said that the US Navy has just sent an aircraft carrier and five escort warships to South China Sea, due to increasing tensions with Beijing.
The US Navy recently sent a warship army to South China Sea, due to the continued increasing tensions because of Beijing’s territorial announcement.
The Navy Times reported that The Pentagon sent John C. Stennis aircraft carrier (with USS nuclear energy), two destroyers, two patrol boat and the admiral ship of fleet 7 to South China Sea, according to Military’s officials.
Meanwhile, US National Defense Secretary Ash Carter warned China not to use aggressive measures in South China Sea.
“China should not follow South China Sea militarization” claimed Mr. Carter in a speech at the beginning of last week in San Francisco. “Concrete actions will cause concrete consequences.
When asked about those consequences, Mr. Carter said that US has strengthened the presence in the Asia- Pacific region and will spend 425 million dollar in the next 5 years for all military exercises and for training in countries in the region where may feel China’s threat.
The tensions have been rising in the being-disputed-sea areas after some reports at the end of last month said that Beijing launched a surface-to-air missile to Phu Lam islands, of Paracel Islands, the place where China, Taiwan and Vietnam are all claiming the sovereignty.
The warships have gone near the being-disputed sea areas in the regions in recent months, to affirm the freedom of movement along the international territorial waters which has led to strong criticism from China.
In a statement released last Friday, a spokesman of The National People’s Congress has denied that Chinese Government is trying to militarize South China Sea, in reverse, accused the US is working on this purpose.
“The US has announced they will bring 70% of Navy force in the Asia-Pacific regions, for the strategy to strengthen their position in Asia. The US has stepped up military activities with all allies and strengths the military presence in Asia-Pacific regions. So all of these is not a militarize activity?, questioned the spokesman.
