Yahoo Japan Corp which owns the famous Japanese website has just launched a new game- Game Plus valued as a big rival to App Store and Google Play.
This new service supplies 39 games through computing cloud and websites which built on HTML 5. Yahoo Japan has cooperated with 52 game publishers evenly including Square Enix and Koei Tecmo to develop new titles and and re-releases some console game such as Final Fantasty X.
The company has competed with Facebook, Tencent and Rakuten to develop web-based games compatible with smartphones and destop without asking for downloading any softwares or apps. According to App Annie, this technology becomes so popular that it can make threats against the share of app stores running by Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc. and lets publishers capture a bigger share of the mobile gaming market, which gained $ 50 billion in sales last year.
Kentaro Kawabe – the CEO of Yahoo Japan said that “Until now games were held back by hardware, but now through the web you can play freely anytime and anywhere you want,”
Last year, Game streaming created a strong wave in the tech world, especially PlayStation Now of Sony Corp. allows users to stream play PS3 and PS4 titles through their consoles or even PCs.
The latest web language- HTML5 has nearly improved graphical capabilities with aim to support developers create more sophisticated games. Dicussing about Flash’s failure, especially, that iPhone didn’t support Flash on it made tech world familiar with HTML5 more.
For Yahoo Japan, game becomes a new motivation to grow. This company has 1/3 total of Internet users about news and online shopping. As a result, it becomes the second largest website in Japan, just Google. This firm has intended to develop game field to raise money from advertisement and shopping. According to Yano Research Institute Ltd, gamers in Japan are expected to spend about 960 billion Yen on mobile games this year.
