Samsung has just officially released the 12MP Dual Pixel which they invented by themselves.
This newest image sensor of Samsung has the size of 1.4μm, helping to enhance light- catch ability and the quality of the image captured by cellphone. With Dual Pixel sensor technology, the ability to focus sharpness and to catch light on smartphone is guaranteed not to be too much worse than a DSLR. As being reported, Dual Pixel technology is used quite a lot on the line DSLR and Mirrorless. Dual Pixel technology allows the camera to focus on the subject faster, improve the captured image quality even in low light condition.
Mr. Ben K.Hur, Vice President of Marketing, LSI system business said: “With 12 million pixels working along as Phase Detection Auto- Focus (PDAF), the new image sensor will brings auto- focusing performance professionally on a smartphone. The users can capture the daily events and precious moments positively on smartphone regardless of lighting conditions”.
The image sensor using Dual Pixel technology of Samsung will split each pixel into 2 photodiodes and these photodiodes will change the photon into electrical charge which is used in phase identification sensor, which helps the camera automatically focus the sharpness faster and better.
The image sensors normally spend less than 5% of Focus by Phase supporting pixel, on the Galaxy S6 is only 1%. But especially Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge use sensor equipped with Dual Pixel technology, allow this feature on 100% pixel. Therefore, there is no coincidence that the technology world has had faith in this technology.
The new sensor has also adopted Samsung’s exclusive ISOCELL technology. This technology can isolate the photodiode in each pixel, helping the reduction of color cross talk between catch-light area in one image point. Thanks for that, the captured images will have genuine color and better sharpness than the normal BSI sensor.
The sensor has a quite minimuml size thanks to the using of cutting- edge chip staking technology. For detail, Dual Pixel image sensor will stack one 65nm sensor and one 28nm logic chip together to create one united piece.
The pictures of Galaxy S7’s detail show that it uses Sony IMX260 image sensor with Dual Pixel technology, and in the future the couple S7 may also use Samsung’s sensor S5K2L1. The using of these two different sensor models is to balance the supply in producing these super couple.
Now we are still not sure that Samsung may provide this newest sensor model to any other technology brands in the future or not.
